I lead design teams that build great products in regulated industries.

I'm the Lead Product Designer at JET Charge, where I own design for Illuminate, Australia’s first OEM-agnostic EV charger management platform. It now manages 6,000+ chargers for enterprise and government fleets across Australia and New Zealand, including Woolworths, IKEA, Team Global Express, RACV, DHL, and the ACT Government, delivering 140,000+ sessions and 2.9GWh per month.

I've built design systems at three companies, most recently a connected Figma and Storybook system that lets engineers ship on-standard UI without design input. I've also built Beacon, a Git-backed agentic design environment on Claude Code and MCP servers, which ingests research data, product analytics, and business strategy to create feature requirement documents and design flows.

Before JET Charge, I spent 7 years in Berlin, first at Seven Senders building logistics delivery and analytics tools, then at Customer Alliance as Product Design Manager. I led designers across EMEA and APAC rebuilding the company's flagship product to improve adoption and increase MRR 10% in 3 months.

I work best on platforms that are genuinely hard, where my customer's job is operational and the cost of bad design shows up in real-world consequences.

People I've worked with say

“I would wholeheartedly recommend Marco to any organisation looking for a design leader who can elevate product experiences, build design capability, and help scale a world-class product organisation.”

Ken Perera

Senior Product Manager, JET Charge

“Marco thinks about design at a level that goes beyond execution. He shapes what good looks like for those around him. His instincts are sharp enough to set a direction, and his craft has the kind of intentionality and consistency you'd expect from someone building a design culture, not just contributing to one”

Hannah Moore

Product Designer, JET Charge

“His weekly design critiques fostered an environment of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity.”

The work I care about

I'm most engaged when the design work is operational, the stakes are real, and the customer's business depends on the product working. That's the appeal of my work at JET Charge. Illuminate runs critical EV charging infrastructure across Australia and New Zealand, and the design decisions power fleets that need to drive their routes every day. I'm drawn to energy and climate platforms, EV and transport infrastructure, and B2B tools where operators trust software to run their business. The energy industry in Australia is at an unusually interesting moment for this kind of work.

I'm always happy to compare notes with people working on similar problems—email me or send me a message on LinkedIn.

Experience

JET Charge

July 2024 – Present

Hybrid / Melbourne, Australia

Lead Product Designer

  • Led the design of Illuminate, Australia’s first OEM-agnostic EV charger management platform, from inception to launch with AU$1.25M+ ARR in year one and a key enabler of JET Charge's AU$72M Series C raise with Mirova. It now manages 6,000+ chargers for enterprise and government fleets across Australia and New Zealand, including Woolworths, IKEA, Team Global Express, RACV, DHL, and the ACT Government, delivering 140,000+ sessions and 2.9GWh per month.
  • Designed the operational core of site-based charger and energy management: charger and site views, dashboards, and fault handling. Depot managers know diesel and are being asked to hit emissions and fuel targets with technology they've never used. The design problem was reducing the complexities of OCPP, vehicle behaviour, and load management to one legible answer: this vehicle is ready, this one isn't, and here's why.
  • Founded the design org and established product design as a key product development partner, bringing design into problems before what to build was settled. That meant asking "why now" as often as "how," and killing work that didn't survive the question.
  • Built Beacon, a Git-backed agentic design environment on Claude Code and MCP servers, which ingests research data, product analytics, and business strategy to create feature requirement documents and design flows for all of product and tech.
  • Built an accessible design system with frontend engineering, using tokens, a connected Figma and Storybook library, and codified guidelines for mobile, web, and hardware, reducing time from concept to implementation by 70%.
  • Enabled the launch of JC Assist, a Maintenance as a Service product built on Illuminate with AU$2M ARR and helping drive over 99% charger uptime.

Customer Alliance

November 2021 – April 2024

Hybrid / Berlin, Germany

Product Design Manager

  • Led the two-year platform rebuild, launching with over 90% CSAT, and growing MRR by 10% within three months.
  • Built a WCAG 2.1 AA design system that became the foundation for rebuilding the flagship B2B SaaS platform.
  • Coached two designers from early career, one from junior to mid-level and one from bootcamp into their first role, while staying hands-on.
  • Design management
  • B2B SaaS
  • Customer Experience

Seven Senders

September 2019 – November 2021

UX Designer → Product Designer → Senior Product Designer

  • Promoted twice in two years, from UX Designer to Senior Product Designer, owning the design system for cross-border delivery and analytics tooling, while mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Built Sendwise, the platform connecting businesses, shippers, and customers, contributing to Seven Senders’ US$40M Series C raise.
  • Designed internal and partner-facing delivery tools, simplifying decades-old manual processes.
